Aircraft/Aerospace Applications
SunMate and Pudgee are often used for vehicle seating in extreme conditions.
Light Plane Seating
"Laminars," combinations of SunMate and Pudgee layers, provide even pressure distribution, vibration damping and comfort to alleviate numbness, aches, and cramping during extended periods of sitting such as on long plane flights. Individuals have used Laminar cushions in their own personal aircrafts as light plane seating material.
Helicopter Seating
SunMate cushions hold helicopter pilots in place during the jarring ride. Contoured Laminars provide the best in energy-absorption and comfort.
Fire-retardant SunMate products designed to meet FAA 25.853(a) are available. Pilots walked away from a helicopter crash with only minor injuries. Their seat cushions were made of SunMate which, though light and soft, has an impact energy absorption rating of 12 ft-lb/in3
Military Aircraft
Due to its excellent impact absorption capability, SunMate is commonly used in ejection seating for military aircraft. Whether it's a troop carrier, military helicopter or fighter jet, impact protection is a necessity. Custom-designed SunMate composites optimize comfort without substantially contributing to ejection forces.
Parachute Harness Padding and Other Applications
AFE Aviation in England uses SunMate in impact cushions for gliding and sport aircraft and strap covering for parachute harnesses among other things.
