Memory Foam as an Art Medium
Pudgee and SunMate have been used as an experimental medium by industrial designers, architects, furniture designers, educators and students of design seeking to achieve a sense of presence or an element of surprise. Its ability to retain an imprint for up to a minute has made it an instrument of heightened environmental awareness. Its unusual consistency, exotic and squishy, adds a quizzical element to creations striving to transcend traditional boundaries. Pudgee is a favorite, with its extraordinary comfort and engaging tactile properties. The cushion material has been used in several unique designs.

1995 SunMate & Pudgee products debuted in the art world as part of a collection displayed in Mutant Materials in Contemporary Design, Museum of Modern Art.

1998-1999 Craig Konyk said the expressions of art patrons as they interacted with his floor of 3" Pudgees comprised one of the most fascinating aspects of "A Pale Soft Plane," Design and Architecture Series, Artists Space, 1998-99.

2002 Pudgee seat cushions were featured with other curious extensions and interpretations of the human interface at Skin: Surface, Substance and Design, Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum of the Smithsonian Institution, 2002.

Architect, Craig Konyk created this Pudgee floor in his exhibit, "A Pale Soft Plane".

Sculpture Foam
Sculpture Foam is rigid enough to be used for ejection seating and high impact absorption applications. It can be custom-molded to provide packing material for transporting delicate objets d'arts. It can be sculpted with a knife, cut with a jigsaw, scroll saw, or set into form when heated to 120°F.

Sculpture Foam can serve as a lightweight frame which can be covered with laminate plywood, fabric, plaster, or clay. Large blocks of Sculpture Foam can function simply as platforms for display.

DSI used the material extensively in architectural models for its new facility. It was shaped to the contours of the landscape, and carved into tenth-scale furniture pieces.
