Mining Shuttle Car Seating
Vibrations of different frequencies cause pain and discomfort in different parts of the body. The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)
performed a study to find a cushion material that would minimize disturbing impacts and vibrations on mining seats, while withstanding the jolting and extreme changes in
temperature and humidity endured by mining car operators. The NIOSH study reported the durability, low modulus of elasticity, consistent damping, and
resistance to changes in temperature exhibited by a cushion made of Extra-Soft SunMate and Pudgee. As a result of this study, SunMate and Pudgee
materials are now regularly used in industrial mining cars.
