Liquid SunMate and Prosthetic Cosmesis
Liquid SunMate may be used for molding the cosmesis for prosthetic limbs. Liquid SunMate is ideal for this type of application, because the formulation can be carefully controlled to determine the degree of softness of the foam. Once the liquid mixture sets into a foam, it has a very fleshy feel. Dye can also be added to attain a variety of flesh tones.

Anyone familiar with the Foam-In-Place Seating system will find pouring for cosmesis a similar process. Chemicals are carefully measured and mixed together in a cup. The liquid mixture is then poured into the limb mold through a small hole. The foam then rises to fill the mold and sets into shape. The mold casing is removed, and the foam is trimmed along the seam.
One advantage of using this system is that the cosmesis may be easily cut and removed to make necessary adjustments to the frame underneath. Another mold may be quickly and easily made to fit the new frame. The process is inexpensive, only takes about an hour, and one Bowl Pack unit contains enough liquid to make several molds.
