CUSTOM MOLDING WITH LIQUID SUNMATE Foam-In-Place Seating (FIPS)
People come in all shapes and sizes, so they need a seating system that does, too. The Liquid SunMate Foam-in-Place-Seating (FIPS) system was developed in 1984 to meet the needs of the severely disabled. FIPS forms to a person’s unique shape in just five minutes, providing advanced posture control and pressure relief almost instantly. Orthopedic professionals and rehabilitation centers use the advanced posture control of FIPS custom-contouring assistive seating technology to slow progressive deformities, improve body functions, and ease the soreness and fatigue associated with confined or prolonged seating.
Foam-In-Place Seating (FIPS) is assistive seating technology for clients with complex positioning needs such as fixed deformities or excessive tone problems. A FIPS contoured insert provides advanced posture control by gently holding a person in position. By distributing sitting pressure evenly, FIPS improves blood circulation and helps relieve pressure points.
Major rehabilitation centers, therapists and seating specialists have participated in the development of the FIPS method. Distributed internationally, FIPS has been tested, proven and accepted by orthopedic and medical professionals worldwide. Used primarily as inserts for wheelchairs, FIPS cushions are created in a matter of hours in just a few steps. The FIPS system saves time by simplifying the seating process.
Each FIPS unit contains three pretested, premeasured liquid ingredients that are mixed and poured into a molding bag placed on the client's chair. The client is positioned on the bag, and the liquid foam rises to form a custom-contoured SunMate cushion within minutes. A total fabric-finished, waterproof insert can be completed in two to four hours (depending on contour complexity).
FIPS Properties
Liquid SunMate Foam-In-Place Seating (FIPS) is essentially used to create a custom-molded SunMate cushion, and as such, the finished FIPS insert has the same exceptional qualities as a SunMate cushion:
- slow springback memory foam
- flows to match the body contours, and slowly returns to its original shape once pressure is removed.
- open-cell structure maximizes airflow to reduce heat buildup.
- uniform pressure distribution and impact energy absorption alleviates sitting fatigue
Both SunMate cushions and FIPS inserts, when fabric-finished, can withstand years of use. SunMate's advanced formulation gives it many technological advantages. The combination of orthopedic comfort, energy absorption, and durability makes SunMate the preferred seating material for race car drivers, aircraft pilots, long-haul truckers and others who spend long hours sitting.
Foam-In-Place Seating is safe, versatile and inexpensive
Because it can quickly mold to any shape or size, Foam-In-Place Seating (FIPS) can be used in many different applications. Temporary foam supports, gerry chairs, supine lyers, head rests, and foot supports are just a few examples.
SunMate and FIPS have naturally low levels of toxicity because plant ingredients constitute over 50% of the formulation. This adds a sense of freshness you won’t find in other seat cushions.
Liquid SunMate Foam-In-Place Seating (FIPS) is one of the most affordably priced seating systems available.
